Brilliant game. I enjoyed every aspect of it. the only complaint I have is not having full control of my player... I feel the player is a bit heavy and hard to place it where I want.
I finally got a chance to play this and I enjoyed it. The art direction you went with worked very well for the limited color palette. The camera mechanic was well thought out. The only complaint I had with the mechanic though was mentioned by someone else and that was the waiting when you wanted to snap another picture.
The general platforming was good for a jam game. There was the obvious issues of getting stuck on objects or "wall climbing" but those are usually issues that get resolved after play testing and iterations of the collisions/physics.
Level design was solid. Had a natural flow for the most part. There were some forked paths that led to short backtracking, but it was very short backtracking which is not entirely a bad thing. Kind of felt like learning the layout of the level to find what you need to do next to move on.
Overall, the game felt fair, was simple enough to figure out what was going on, the style/atmosphere were visually appealing, the song fit the mood of the game and I found it an enjoyable experience!
Hey Seth! Totally agree with canceling the photo, it would cut down the annoying wait time. Unfortunately, i messed up the platforming this time around and as the developer, I was much better at making those jumps so I didn't realize how tricky it was haha. Thanks for the comment and happy you enjoyed it! :D
I love the ambience and the general mood of the game, music was very fitting and the art style was nice, I really like the character art. The taking picture mechanic is really cool. I had a bit of issues with getting stuck on the side of platforms and I wish I could cancel the picture to quickly take another one, cause it often lead to just... waiting.
Thank you so much for playing RockyMullet! Glad you enjoyed it and I totally missed out on making the platforming cleaner woops! Canceling the picture would definitely make things feel smoother, noted! Thanks for the feedback :)
This was a very cute and charming game. The music truly made it even more immersive. There are quite a few things to unpack here that can be fixed easily, but i know how hectic jams can be. Here's a list of things I noticed:
Collisions
For the most part they work as intended when it comes to walls and hazards. There were some bugs where you could easily just infinitely jump up the wall infinitely, and there was an area where there was nothing to collide with, but visually had a wall? https://imgur.com/a/QbWJ1wD
Now there seems to be some favoritism when it comes to collision detection here. Let me explain: I was trying to get some love, but it was harder than getting a shape up from the saw blades. https://imgur.com/a/EzPdgLA
The butterfly was such a big tease. So much that by the time i realized I had spiderman powers and i tried to catch it, it was just an illusion. Crushed me harder than the hearts.
The Camera Mechanic
It is a fantastically interesting concept that just needs a bit of polish regarding level design. Because of the bugs, which I also enjoyed, I could get over many obstacles that might've required it. Bugs aside though, you just have to make it clear to the player that they just can't cheese past these sections they are supposed to learn about said mechanic.
The good thing is that Camera interactions got lots of love, and that's more favoritism. Hearts need some love you know. This is what I mean https://imgur.com/a/QEKTHxx
this is not bad. I'd rather have this than having to travel too much with my mouse.
Dying
When dying, you can move your blood around for a bit before things restart. I giggled a bit.
The Ending
Now, you almost had me in the first half... Iwas like, damn, i wanted more! & then got curious, and well, you know the rest haha. I just kept searching. It was a nice touch.
In Conclusion
I NEED MOAR! Hope you expand this a bit!
PS: I found your game on twitter. Gotta love the topic suggestions of the platform.
Wow thank you so much for the review!! I appreciate it very much :)
Totally hear you on the collisions and sloppy platforming. That was my bad, I didnt put enough effort into polishing that up. Hahah so sorry about the butterfly, it was supposed to have more significance!
Noting down all your feedback, thank you again. Out of all my jam games, I am really considering taking this one further. Hopefully, it happens!
Got to the end! I absolutely adore the look and feel of the game, awesome art and music that really feels like it was ripped straight out of hollow knight! The mechanic of taking pictures of things to stop them is great too. I like that there were hidden switches too that you could only get to with the camera.
If you're looking to make any improvements, the platform feels a bit wonky, like I would be standing on a platform and fall through it if I wasn't directly on the center. There was also an area that had a switch you had to hit, but there was a light above it that said it needed a switch. When you put your mouse over the light, it shows the platform but won't let you take a picture of it. If you try to hold the camera over that light, you fall through the platforms. I figured out later that taken a picture of the light wasn't a switch (yep I'm a dumb dumb, but I got a bit confused)
Thank you so much for checking it out!! Really happy to hear you liked the atmostphere :)) Definitely didnt have enough time to polish the platforming movement sadly but I will keep that in mind next time I make a platformer! Maybe a glitch effect for the preview version of the area would be a better indicator. Lots of great feedback here, I really appreciate it MightyJor!

I like the art style for this game. The ability to freeze moving objects by taking a picture is a creative and unique game mechanic. Nice Job

All of my yes if it does.
